Rainbow Trout

Brightscapes: The Way To Beauty

Rainbow Trout #442
ink and gouache paint on Bristol paper
2.5" x 3.5" (6.35 cm x 8.89 cm)
NOT A PRINT OR REPRODUCTION

The light splash of water breaks the silence as I load the gear before sunrise at the dock.  The boat sputtering toward the channel as I make my way to the big lake.  Setting up the equipment, the sun is glowing orange as it begins to appear.  I eat my doughnut watching it rise and waiting to snag a rainbow trout.  The boat rocking in the gentle breeze.

Mike Kraus was born on the industrial shoreline of Muskegon, Michigan. After earning his Fine Arts Degree from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, he attended Grand Valley State University for his graduate degree. From there, he gained varied experiences from the Chicago Architecture Foundation, Art Institute of Chicago, Hauenstein Center For Presidential Studies, Lollypop Farm Humane Society, and the Children's Memorial Foundation. And every place he worked, he had his sketchbook with him and found ways to be actively creative. In 2014, Kraus became a full-time artist by establishing Mike Kraus Art. Since then, he has sold thousands of paintings that are displayed in nearly every state and dozens of countries. Currently, Kraus lives in Rochester, New York with his beautiful wife and goofy dog.

The Adventures of Giant Jenga

Have you ever thought, "you know what would make this game great?  If it was huge."  Then Giant Jenga is for you.

Step 1: Have a crazy mother-in-law that comes up with these ideas
Step 2: Purchase 8 2x4x8s

Step 3: Measure out 10 1/2 inches and cut with the saw.

Step 4: Sand off edges and rough spots

Step 5: PLAY!

 Step 6: Choose blocks wisely

Step 7: Make sure no dogs are around during an unwise choice

Step 8: Reset

GOOD TIMES WITH GIANT JENGA!

Good Ship Lollypop (NOW WITH A MISSILE LAUNCHER!)

Photobucket
Cats love christmas too!

Photobucket
We had a big fundraiser last week and Lollypop Farm grossed $37,000!  YEAH!  Sounds like a lot until I found out that the care of the animals from one of our cruelty cases has run up a tab of about $86,000.  It amazes me the things we can do though!

Photobucket
This inkind donation from Perkins.  It is wonderful chauffeuring a platter of browies, cookies, brownies and other goodies that take up my entire backseat in the morning.

Photobucket
So...  It begins...

Photobucket
Rachel and Erin boxing each other on the Kinect

Photobucket
The best part of watching these two box is they keep getting closer to the TV as if they are going to start boxing the characters on the screen.

Photobucket
Lollypop Farm Holiday Party at the Green Lantern (restaurant; not the superhero) in the village of Fairport.  A good time was had by all and, as this pic shows, lots of hats that move and play music.

Photobucket
Look at what I got at the White Elephant Gift Exchange!  It's a missile launcher for my desk.  It has a full range of motion, has desktop controls for my computer, and another way for me to threaten my volunteers to do more data entry just in time for the giving season!

Wii Love Birthdays!

Photobucket
THANKS TO MY WIFE it is 1988 again and I have the original Nintendo!  So, when she had to go to Ithaca for a conference that weekend, I had to perfect Mario Kart, Goldeneye, Sports, and MLB2011.  Megan must either really love me or really hate herself because she knows I get addicted to beating these games.

Photobucket
Then again, maybe it's her Mario Kart addiction I should be worried about...

Photobucket
Birthday dinner at Dinosaur BBQ!  THANKS TO ALL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY FOR EVERYTHING!  YOU ARE AWESOME AND I'M LUCKY TO KNOW YOU!

Photobucket
Sarah (Lee) the cat.  You should adopt her because she's super easygoing

Photobucket

Photobucket
Petey's first bath.  You could hear him wimper a mile away.

Photobucket
Our friend Amanda volunteers with Junior League and they had their holiday sale at the Dome Arena in Henrietta.  I've never been to this place, but I want to know a lot more about it. There has to be a wikipedia page about it or something.  Maybe we should live here instead of getting some suburban single family home...

Photobucket
Not only was there a holiday sale, but an RV show!  Ok, if the owners of the Dome Arena won't sell to us, we'll get an RV instead.

That's about it.  I'm hungry.

The Summer Red Wings

Photobucket
Who's that dog with Megan?  It's Barbie!  Who's Barbie?  Just another lap dog that loves Megan.  It must be a sign...

Photobucket
Rachel and I ruining papa's driveway with chalk paint that doesn't come off with water even though it said it did.  Oh well...

Photobucket
"Poopie."  Real nice work...

Photobucket
Stella (aka Sasha to those at Lollypop Farm) enjoying all the other dogs at Ellison Park

Photobucket
She's a bit big for a lap dog.

Photobucket
Frontier Field, home of the Rochester Red Wings.  So, now I can have my "Winter Red Wings" hockey and my "Summer Red Wings" baseball.

Photobucket
Baseball glove horse sculpture.

Photobucket
Why was I at a baseball game?  FREE TICKETS, FREE FOOD, FREE DRINKS! FREE BEER!  FREE STOMACH ACHE AFTER THE GAME!!!  So very worth it!

Photobucket
If there's one thing I've learned about Rochester, it is that they love bounce houses!

Photobucket

Photobucket
Tire race gets a little dangerous and almost takes out a third base coach

Photobucket
The Legends of the Red Wings.  One is Cal Ripken, Jr. and I don't remember the other two.  And, I couldn't find it on their website.  So...

Photobucket
HERE THEY COME AROUND THE BEND!

Photobucket
OH NO!  NOW THEY ARE COMING AFTER US!

Photobucket
Panoramic shot of Frontier Field.  Thanks to Dee for organizing this.  It was a good time and I expect to see the awesome new glasses at work soon.

I'm done.  Need to find a way to get out of the heat...

Megan's Birthday Blowout!

Photobucket
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEGAN!  She thinks she's so clever because she blew out the candles without letting me capture it.

Photobucket
You can tell by the look in her eye...

Photobucket
What do you do when it's cold and rainy on your birthday?  Go to the STRONG MUSEUM OF PLAY! http://www.museumofplay.org/

Photobucket
Did Rachel get really tall or did Megan shrink in her old age?

Photobucket
My favorite action figure.  His name was something like "Johnny No Hands."  I like that you can give him hands, hooks, or a toilet plunger...

Photobucket
Wait, Ghandi action figure is now my favorite toy.  Nothing like pretending to fast to beat the British

Photobucket
Serious business

Photobucket
The mini-Wegman's grocery store is a hit with the kids.  Maybe after a couple more visits, I can get Tachel to pick out the items I like and grocery shop for me instead...

Photobucket
Hosting a cooking show

Photobucket
Mmmmm...  Delicious!

Photobucket
Now flying a helicopter

Photobucket
I don't know who most of these kids are.  Maybe one of them is the one I said "Happy Birthday" to and he responded "Who is this?  What are you talking about?" while on a can phone.  I guess that wasn't the phone Megan was on.

Photobucket
"Tornados" an original play by Rachel Lee Dork.

Photobucket
Man, it's hard to get a cab in Sesame Street.  As you can tell, we get in a lot of trouble.  And, don't remind Megan about me blowing a spit wad at a neighboring table accidently at a local diner not long after this...

Photobucket

Photobucket
It's either the Giant from Jack and the Bean Stalk or Andre the Giant Angel.  I forget...

Photobucket
Rachel and Rich in the fairy tale house

Photobucket
The Berenstain Bears.  A favorite of mine growing up and surprised kids even know what they are.

Photobucket
TO THE NERD ROOM!

Photobucket
Megan vs. Donkey Kong

Photobucket
Rich remembering when they had these at the 7-11

Photobucket
People Magazine isn't something I expected to find at a Toy Museum, but whatever.  The cover story is still relevant today, I guess...

Photobucket
Megan Bell Doll

Photobucket
YIKES!  No wonder I haven't slept well since the museum

Photobucket
Tachel and the Bear

Photobucket
Megan and I along the Genesee River.  No pics of when we went to the Memorial Art Gallery since you can't take photos of the art inside.  Some interesting stuff though.  The upstairs was pretty amazing.  Went to a few restaurants.  Made chips and cheese and drank margaritas while trying to hook up the DVD player to the internet.  I'm sure we'll figure that out.

Photobucket
Flight Wine Bar in the Corn Hill Neighborhood of Rochester.  Pretty swanky place.  The wine was very good (and I'm not a wine drinker).

Photobucket
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEGAN!  I hope you had a good birthday weekend despite losing your car for about a week (and counting) and not getting the latest Harry Potter movie!!!

Photobucket
A few pieces of other business.  Man, look how sunny it was when we went to What's Ur Scoop?  Remember what the sun looked like?  There was a time when it didn't rain in Rochester.

Photobucket
Nothing like hanging out at Lollypop Farm waiting for a food delivery and hanging out with a horse until it comes.

Photobucket
United Way's Day of Caring volunteers from a bunch of organizations like Xerox, Rochester Institute of Technology, and many others who came out and worked very hard on Lollypop Farm's landscaping.  Looks great and smelled like fresh cut grass for quite a while!

That's it for now.  Just waiting to see if Megan will ever get her car back.  The gas sensor failed and the headlights just stopped working.  It didn't seem like big issues, but we're still without a car and no one seems to know how to get the headlights to work without setting the car on fire (add a fuse box to the tab).  I remember why I decided to stop owning a car again...
