Dog Days of Summer

Scout has a new buddy to play with, Brooklyn.  She loves playing with bigger dogs.  I like it because it means one full day of her sleeping.

BELLA!  Add another day of sleeping!

Bella:  Mike!  Scout won't play with me.
Mike: Scout, get outta there.
Scout: But I so tired and Bella can't get me here...

Unfortunately, I can't get her there either.

BEST DUMPSTER DIVE FIND EVER!  Any out there looking for a backhoe?

#PIZZA.  This is some of my favorite chalk art we found at Cobbles Elementary.

Nothing like making dinner over a bonfire on a weekday.

Now that's a beautiful flame.

Mmmm...  Brats!

Embers after a good night at the backyard pit

HAMBURGER!  No?  A quinoa and lentil burger.  Mmmm.

Haven't seen much of the deer lately.  But, yesterday I did see a doe and fawn race through the neighborhood.  It's a pretty fresh fawn since it didn't look much bigger than Scout.

The Battle Against Beige Tyranny!

THE DAYS OF LIVING IN A BEIGE HOME ARE NUMBERED!

Before and after of the northeast side of the living room.  Since our home was built in 1951, we decided to restore the house to a fun 1950s style palette.

Sorry The Braithwaites Established 2000.  The Bell-Kraus' will finally claim this living room in the shade of Mint Milkshake!

While I'm at home repair, need to clean the gutters (which apparently have not been cleaned since 2005).  Can I do it from climbing out the second floor window?  Nope, need a ladder...

Now that the work is done, time for a fire!

Campfire Premium Quality Giant Roaster Marshmallows!  The mascot is accurate.  The marshmallows are the size of someone's head!  THANKS MARIANNE!

Mmmmmm....  Giant Smore!

Look who came to our cookout.  Megan and I were sitting around a nice fire talking when we heard some footsteps.  We saw one deer walk by and try to keep his distance.  Not this one.  He walked right up to us and the fire and didn't back off until we both shouted at him and banged sticks.  He only backed off about ten feet and we could not scare him off.  I literally have about 100 photos of this deer thinking I could use the flash to startle him.  Nope.

 photo 100_6248_zps73582e0a.jpg
The more I observe the deer at my house, the less impressed I am with deer hunters.  It isn't a sport if I can walk up to them, put a rope around their necks, and lead them into my garage.

Megan and I's anniversary is coming up in the next couple of weeks and we don't have patio furniture yet.  Saw this Gnome/Dwarf set at Topps for only $199.99!  This truly would be the gift we would never, NEVER forget!

That's it for this edition.  Thanks for wasting your time with me!

Cat On a Hot Tin Ceiling

CAT ESCAPES INTO THE CEILING!

Photobucket
Poor thing.  I had to stay late after work to help set a trap to catch her.

Certainly not afraid of heights

THAT'S A LOT OF WHITE PEOPLE!  It was a "whiteout" for the Jets game.  The only white shirts I have are a dress shirt and a tshirt with a cartoon Bavarian pickle yodeling.  It seems that was the case with many people.  Probably would have been more successful if they would have gone with red or blue...

Photobucket
We've been looking for houses with a nice porch.  I never thought to look for a car with one...

Photobucket
How depressing is it that it is this dark when I leave work now?  How about this for a hot button election day issue: Daylight Savings Time 365 days a year?

That's it.

When Your Mission In Life Has Been Fulfilled

You know the routine by now. Here's the ol' Wednesday BBQ crew: SME, Amanda, Karli, Brent, and the lovely Angela...

Desperado

Megan and I headed up to Sawyer, Michigan to a friend's summer home for a cocktail party on Saturday. This is his place. It's for sale. If you are interested in the house, check out the website at: http://13927minnich.rubloff.com/

Waiting for the cocktail party to start, Megan and I headed to St. Joseph's (St. Joe's), Michigan for some food and pick up some party supplies. Here's a view of the lake and "Whirlpool Appliance Field" from downtown.

Ahhhh, Michigan beaches...

Megan hiding from me and the sun...

Us

OH MY GOD!!! IT'S KITT FROM KNIGHT RIDER!!! We found this in the parking lot of a restaurant and I spotted the trademark lights in the grill as soon as it came into view. For more info on my childhood hero, visit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knight_Rider

Here's where to go for a good burger between Chicago, Illinois and Muskegon, Michigan. Visit: http://www.redamaks.com/

Megan loves burgers

"ARG.... Why the hell is that garbage truck so noisy this morning? Why won't it go away. Why is it getting louder? Why is it next to my apartment?" I look out the window to see they are re-roofing my apartment at 8am...

The photo doesn't do this justice. This load was precariously loaded onto the palette and was spinning like crazy. I was waiting for it to fall and kill a roofer or to be dropped through the roof crushing everything in my bedroom. Luckily, the earth survived...

HEY! This is Hill People Milk!!!

For those who don't know, here's the info. You will receive more later to remind you...

Frances trying to keep her arms warm with Noah at the BBQ

Karli breaking in the new charcoal chimney

Blue loving the attention, petting, and patio

Megan looking very chic.

Angela wearing her amazing shrinking arm flannel from China.

Angela's Postcard from China. It says:

Hey Kids! This trip has been
sweet! A visual and sensory
overload. Neon and wall-to-wall
people. Night markets full of
plastic cheap everything. Temples
and gardens. Communism everywhere.
A karaoke on every corner. Drank
on some sweet bridges and made
a tool of myself many times trying
out my Chinese. I thought that
Chicago traffic was bad but
China traffic is a free-for-all. I
got hit by a scooter today - nothing
bad though. Hung out with
some cool German skateboarders
in Shanghai from my hostel.
So much to see and take
pictures of. Will bring
you kids home some really
terrible rice wine! Glad I
took this jump across the ocean!
See you soon - Angela

This is everyone BBQing. Picture taken from camera strapped to an eagle...

Some BBQ rookies came to our place and showed us up. Talapia? Reallly?!?!? I mean the fanciest thing we ever cook is Ball Park Franks... Maybe burgers

Modernism show in the River North area.

Megan all gussied up for the Modernism show since it was a work event for her.

More stuff to buy and sell

Here's a robot coathanger? sculpture? soldier?

GATHER AROUND THE MEAT TABLE!

Went to Artropolis, which is a GIGANTIC, HUGE art show at the Merchandise Mart. Thing of every art gallery and museum you've ever seen. Now think of it being in one place. I took a few pictures of the city while up there...

Taking pics from this building always look awesome. Like they are from some tourist Chicago calendar...

WATCH OUT OF THE GIANT LIZARD!

booth after booth after booth of galleries from all over the world...

Art or copyright infringement?

Megan's been having troubles with her car recently. So, I made her a VW of wood...

I have found my summer project. Or should I say, my summer project found me? This is the third Chicago Bears van I've found in three weeks! Will this be this years version of me taking my picture with presidential statues?

Kuma's Corner "Lair of the Minotaur" burger

Metallica burger. I have to say I was really disappointed with the burgers this time. Since I was last there, they've replaced the meat with cheaper processed meat I think. It tasted like it was grilled and prepared the same and it was all good. But, the meat on the inside didn't get the marination and seasoning like before. The interior meat was so bland and kinda gross. But, that's the trend at restaurants these days with the economy the way it is. Good job George Bush, our first MBA president...

Parking garage sign in Streeterville. Every level was named after a musician and the elevator had their music playing. Too bad we couldn't park in "Neil Diamond."

I discovered the "cuisine" mode on the camera. Look how delicious it made the meal look. This is the Beef and Lamb Charwma (sp?) from Samiramis on N. Kedzie. Super awesome good!

Here are the french fries and Megan's chicken something in the distance

So, I saw a picture frame near the garbage in an alley near Irving Park and Sacramento and thought I could use it. Unfortunately, the frame was completely useless. But, there were photos tucked into it. I liked them and thought I'd share them.

I wonder what the story is. Are these from a portrait studio in South America or something? Kind of like the studio that girl from "Nepolean Dynomite" ran?

beautiful landscape

Nothing like the KMart at Sacramento and Addison

"Hello Mr. Easter Bunny. You are famous. May I take a photo with you in this thrift store?"

"I love you brother."
"I love you too, man."
"Let's take a picture"
"Let's!"
"I will put my hand on you even though you have leprosy."
"You are a true brother..."
