And She Seems Curious About What's In the Pantry Too...

Hey everyone,

Hope all are doing well. I've been very busy lately with work and all. I think the next four weeks are pretty much already booked for work, sleep, eatting, hanging out, parties, and all the other great stuff that happens in Chicago during the summer. I have Great Chicago Places & Spaces this weekend, which is a huge architecture festival. There's tons of visitors and all sorts of other things. So...
Here's a parade float of a fort for the Polish Constitution Day Parade, which was also Cinco De Mayo. So, there were a lot of strange festivities that blended together that day.

Maxwell (Canal) Street Market. Some guy rockin' out at his booth (Minivan).
One reason I no longer live in Ravenswood. This is part of the $500 million renovation of the Brown Line. They are replacing Fullerton Station and taking it out section-by-section. It's really fun to watch. Bess, Megan, and Katie at Katie's birthday taco party. It was a great party Katie! I've never eatten so many tacos in one night. This must be the best place in the world to work. I think this place was called Fernando's and they had very good food. My favorite thing is their burritos. They are in soft taco shells and they are small. Then, what makes it a burrito instead of a taco? I have no idea. Maybe it's the sauce? Megan's birthday at B.L.U.E.S. Chicago on Halsted just north of Fullerton. Taken just moments ago near my apartment. They are putting trees on the sidewalks down North Avenue. It looks so much nicer already. I can't wait until they are a little more mature. Also, look how nice and sunny it is. After I'm done with a couple of projects, I think I will work on the 'zine on the porch today...

My Half-Hour Story...

It's Monday and that means three things 1) laundry day 2) shaving day 3) blog posting day. It has come to my attention that some of you don't think I write enough. I'll work on that...

Mike Nummerdor and I went to funny named bar on Fullerton the other night and tested out there assortment of fine $2 beers. America beer won my vote for taste and presentation.

The best thing about this bar was that it is a jazz club. There's no cover and there's cheap drinks. Oh yeah, we were the only customers as well. It's a great place to become a regular.
Here's the experimental jazz band.

Ronan, a fine Irishman, is going back to Ireland for x-mas. So, we went to this Polish bar on Division. I would tell you the name, but it has three of them. It's either 1) Monica's Lounge 2) Theresa's Place, or 3) Something in Polish. Either way, it was another great dive bar where a bar fight broke out among "the regulars." Good times!

This is all nice and sweet, but I don't trust that gnome for a second...

Heading home from work on the Damen Blue Line stop.

Another holiday display near Amanda Talmadge's apartment. They seem to be on speed or ex or something.
..
The evil Santa Clause.

This is Amanda's cat Niko (or Neeko, Neco, Nico, or something). Nice cat, but watch the claws.

Frances meets up with Mr. Carpet on the way to Goldie's on Lincoln. Man, that bar is way awesome. The beer and liquor is cheap, they let you bring in or have food delivered to the bar and provide you with menus, no douchebags, video games on a big screen, and a relaxed atmosphere.

Frances and Amanda on the way to the California Clipper to meet up with the rest of the gang.

Frances in her "Virgin Mary" pose.

Frances at the California Clipper.

Some honky tonk band at the Clipper.

I't should be a really good week. Tuesday, I'm not getting anything done at work because I have a breakfast meeting as soon as I get there, a departmental holiday party soon after, and then the company party at 5pm at some architecture firm in the West Loop. Wednesday will be much the same, but recovering from the hangover and getting ready for vacation. Then, I have the next week off. I'll be heading back home at some point and look to have a good time with my friends. Hope to see you all soon!

xoxo,

Mike

John Tesh Was An Alien?

The cake says it all...

The birthday went well. I think Hasan really liked it. He was so thankful and I think almost cried at one point. That kid will never want to leave Muskegon after this.

After the Glenside Pub, we headed to the drive-in to see The 40-Year Old Virgin and Wedding Crashers. Hilarious sexual comedies. I thought it was funny that Steve Carrell (sp?) was picked on for riding his bike so much since that is how I get around town. Maybe he'd have better luck if he had a sweet bike like my 1979 Schwinn Cruiser instead of the Pee-Wee Herman bike.

Oh yeah, I have a pen pal now. My student from Moon School sent me another letter. It's pretty funny. I like the drawings illustrating the letter.

I got a call from the American Red Cross for a job interview. So, Mr. Jacob Dykema, I need to know the name of your mom's neighbor who applied pressure for me. Candy or something? It's a pretty cool job. Basically, I would travel around the world for three week deployments helping people in disasters. I would be awesome at that. With job interviews, it's either feast or famine. Seems to be feast right now.

Anyway, not too much going on. Andrea and I are going to her grandparent's house for dinner. Maybe he will make me mix tapes after that. I don't know what we are doing afterwards. All I know is I can have too rough of a night because I have to head to Chicago tomorrow.
