Orange and Purple Chevron Squirrel

Orange and Purple Chevron Squirrel, 2014
acrylic paint on canvas board

I only fed him one time.  Now, I can't get rid of him.  He hangs on my screen door begging me for more peanut butter.  I'm no longer able to go in the backyard.  Yet, I find the whole thing entertaining.

This painting would great in a space that is bright pink, gold, light yellow, orange, grey, or beige,

Peneda-Gerês National Park

Peneda-Gerês National Park, Portugal , 2014
Acrylic on canvas board

Our little rental car struggles through the mountainous switchbacks in northern Portugal.  Just north of Parque de São Bento da Porta Aberta, the little hatchback pulls over to an overlook of the Cávado River.  A valley filled with unique colorful flora.  Wind and water have carved this land of granite.  Now, if only we can find the trailhead to explore...

This painting would look best in a space that is light yellow, bright red, dark orange, or neutral beige.

Evergreen Birch Forest

Birch trees have always been a meditative source for me. Growing up, there was one outside my window that I would look at while daydreaming. And, when I needed to get away from the world I went to a grove of Birch trees to find refuge. I’ve always found the unique and nearly useless white tree interesting.

This painting would look best in a small bright space that seems bare.  It would also compliment a space that is navy blue, burgundy red, or yellow.

Vision Quest III

Vision Quest III, 2014
acrylic painting on canvas
8" x 10"

I have stayed here for several days.  Alone in the wilderness with only the things I can carry in my backpack.  I've been rationing my food and water to extend my time here.  There's an intensity to the morning sun that is counter-balanced by the dew on the leaves.  A delicate harmony to everything.

This piece would work in a space that is green, red, navy blue, or on wood.

Tree In Albufeira, Portugal

Tree In Albufeira, Portugal, 2014
acrylic paint on canvas
8" x 10"

Hiking along the Atlantic coast in southern Portugal.  The only shade from the intense sun is a tree.  Every so often, there's a cool breeze from the water to provide some relief.  It's a great place to drink vinho verde.  To plan our life together on the other side of the world.

This painting would great in almost space that is red, pink, violet, yellow, or blue.

Hemlock Lake

Hemlock Lake, 2014
acrylic paint on canvas board
7" x 9"

A day trip to the Finger Lakes.  Well-tended wineries and old rustic farms nestle the rolling hills carved by the pure glacier water.  Wild Cardinal Flowers border the fertile soil of this famous agricultural region.  The sky is a perfect shade of blue and the air smells so fresh.  It can feel like an earthly paradise.

This piece would work best in a space that is jade green, red, or bright yellow.

Meerkat On a Field of Red

Meerkat On a Field of Red , 2014
acrylic on canvas
10" x 10"

Today, in the Kalahari Desert, he is a sentry while the others in his clan forage and play.  If there is danger, he will bark to tell the others to hide.  But, there is no danger today.  Yet, he will remain on duty while the others race and wrestle in the sun.

This painting would look best somewhere that needs a splash of color like a beige foyer or small wall space.

ROAR

Rachel and I got to spend some time together this weekend.  There were a few rounds of Mario Kart on the Wii, Chinese for dinner, she taught me all about Movie Star Planet and Moshi Monster, as well as lots of drawing.  It was a good play date.

Someone became shy suddenly...

Rachel's drawing of Katy Perry.  My favorite part is her signature in the hairpiece.  THANKS FOR HANGING OUT WITH ME RACHEL!  I HAD A FUN TIME!!!

If she gets to show off her art skills, I will show off mine.  This is a silkscreen of a factory in Muskegon, Michigan.  It was part of a series I did in college.  There are about 30 others that have ended up in many odd places.  The majority are at my mom's house.  She'll probably give them to you for fire wood at a good price.

These are sketches I did of people that rode the Brown Line train with me to work in Chicago.  The torn off parts are where I wrote things like "get milk for dinner" and "PAY ELECTRIC BILL!"

Mini abstract landscape.  Somewhere out there are some strange large paintings I did with super thick paint.  This is a practice piece that is only a 6 x 8 inches.  There was some painting I saw at the Art Institute of Chicago that I really liked and I tried using a similar technique.  From a distance, it's suppose to look like the woods (not sure if I'm allowed to tell you that, but oh well).

Another painting of abstract woods in the fall.  Kinda looks like the leftovers after a party...

Finally, please consider joining our family in the 2013 Walk to End Alzheimer's at Corn Hill in Rochester, NY on Saturday October 12th.  For more information, please visit the site below:
