HAPPY JUNETEENTH!  On Saturday June 19th, let's celebrate 155 years of freedom for everyone in the United States.  A day to barbeque, play games and sing.  To learn about our shared history and remember those generations who needlessly suffered.  And to renew our oath to freedom, justice, and equality.  To learn more about Juneteenth, visit: https://www.vox.com/2020/6/18/21294825/history-of-juneteenth

During Prohibition, Americans would sneak across the Mexican border to drink and illegally smuggle alcohol.  Originally, Margarita's (Spanish for "Daisy") was made with brandy, but it transitioned into using tequila.  It's a drink for everyone as it is sweet, sour, and salty.  No wonder it's the most popular mixed drink in the United States.

This painting would look best in a small space that is dark red, yellow, green, blue, purple, black, white, gray, beige. or wood

With sunrise at 5:29 AM, how am I expected to get any sleep?  Ugh.  I stammer out of bed to perform my usual morning routine of letting the dog out and all.  My bones ache.  I load up the coffeemaker with grounds and water.  It gurgles and puffs.  A steady stream trickling into the pot.  A mug full of caffeine to keep me awake during the day.

Sunflowers

Brightscapes: The Way To Beauty

Sunflowers
acrylic paint on canvas board
8" x 10" (20.3 cm x 25.4 cm)

The wind gently flows through her hair as she basks in the sun.  The light energizing her spirit and the fresh scent of the field relaxes her soul.  There is only the whisper of the breeze and the sound of her footsteps as she passes row after row of sunflowers.  She selects a few choice blooms for a temporary reminder of the gratitude she has for this moment.  Knowing how fortunate you are only brings you more luck.

This painting would look best in a small-to-medium space that is red, orange, purple, green, blue, white, black, grey, beige, or wood.

It's been a long and brutal winter.  The temperatures plunged to their depths and the snows climbed higher.  Suddenly, spring arrives with the sun burning through the somber clouds.  The heat from the rays invigorating the earth.  We awake from our slumber with a reminder of joy.

This painting would look best in a space that is red, orange, purple, yellow, green, blue, white, black, grey, beige, or wood.

The facades are freshly painted with well-manicured lawns and power-washed sidewalks.  Chicago takes pride in their design and architecture.  It's also the city of broad shoulders that understands the backbreaking work of digging itself out of the mud and into a world-class city.  The alley is where all the toil occurs to make life here possible.  Like a grapevine that has to struggle to make the perfect wine, this hidden utilitarian passage is what makes Chicago beautiful.

I follow the winding path not knowing where I'll end up.  The trees rustle in the breeze stirring up the aromas of the forest.  A freshness one always has to remind themselves of in civilization.  The light refracts in strange ways at this time.  It's when the surreal becomes the real.

This painting would look best in a space that is red, orange, purple, yellow, green, blue, white, black, grey, beige, or wood.

Our bikes race up and down the gentle hills of Provence.  Everything has a distinct texture, the colors are vibrant, and the perfume in the air is intoxicating.  And every twisting road we turn down has countless rows of purple and blue lavender.  The heat of the Mediterranean sun presses against our backs as we pedal back to the village of Sault.  I'll never forget the fields of France.

This painting would look best in a space that is light red, yellow, orange, dark green, blue, dark purple,  black, white, beige, or wood

It is estimated that people touch their faces about 23 times per hour! Respiratory infections can be caused by many different bacteria, viruses, and other disease-causing germs. When you touch your face with dirty, unwashed hands, germs can take up residence in your mucous membranes which can lead to an infection and zits.

There are several ways that you can protect yourself from getting a respiratory infection:
1) Wear a mask and cover your nose and mouth.
2) Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Never touch your face with dirty hands.
3) Wash your hands frequently. Washing hands with soap and water is the best way to get rid of germs in most situations (Use an 60-95% alcohol-based hand sanitizer to clean your hands if soap and water are not available).
4) Get a flu shot every year. Encourage your family and friends to get a flu shot too!
5) Ask your healthcare provider if the pneumonia vaccine is right for you.
6) Avoid being close to people who are coughing and sneezing.

Near Quebec City, in the St. Lawrence River, is the ÃŽle d'Orléans.  It's our time away from the world.  When we leave our home, it's to wander among the farms and visit the fields of my ancestors who settled here from France in the 1600s.  We'll bike around the Chemin Royal to build up an appetite for dinner.  As we gather around the table, we're grateful for the bounty this island has provided us.

This painting would look best in a small-to-medium space that is red, orange, yellow, dark green, blue, purple, beige, black, white, or wood.

Spring gardening is a lot of work with little instant gratification.  There's a lot of weeding, pruning, sowing, tilling, and other activities that look like you've done less than when you started.  Little by little, some seedlings appear and other greenery.  The nightly concern of frost and expectations of deer.  One morning you wake up to unseasonable warm weather and you are surprised a burst of purple miraculously appears in your yard.  Summer must be near.

This piece would look best in a space that is red, orange, yellow, dark green, light purple, black, white, grey, beige, or wood.

The narrow streets off La Rambla provide generous shade from the intense heat of the sun.  Catalunya is quiet except for a lone moped delivering meals.  Barcelona's cityscape is a gallery of Roman ruins from 8 BC, Gothic homes, Baroque palaces, opulent theatres, ancient artwork, and contemporary graffiti.  Above there are countless loving homes with tenderly cared-for patio gardens.  At eye level, murals on roll-up doors share the feelings and humor of the local citizens.

This painting would look best in a small-to-medium space that is red, ornage, yellow, green, blue, purple, black, white, grey, or wood.
