A weekend to myself.  Better get everything I need to survive.  A few meals, junk food for snacks, something for dessert, and something to drink to make me feel good.  Aisles and aisles of brightly colored sugary treats.  All waiting for me to let myself go.

This drawing would look best in a colorful space that is bright red, orange, yellow, light green, blue, purple, black, white, neutral, or wood.

Birch trees have always been a meditative source for me. Growing up, there was one outside my window that I would look at while daydreaming. And, when I needed to get away from the world I went to a grove of Birch trees to find refuge. I’ve always found the unique and nearly useless white tree interesting.

This painting would look best somewhere that has saturated rich colors

It's framed by Gianluca Moretti using yellow poplar wood, and finished with acrylic semi glossy. Gianluca is a woodworker that I partner with on Etsy. You can see more of his frames and more of his pieces at his shop located at: www.etsy.com/shop/MorettisCreations.

This piece would work in a space that is red, pink, burnt orange, yellow, dark green, ultramarine blue, lavender purple, wood, or a neutral beige

She's been on her feet all night long.  Taking orders and attitude from customers.   The food was prepared somewhere in Iowa, frozen, shipped, thawed, thrown on a plate, and served with a smile.  Every couple of minutes, the drinks are refilled.  She cleans up the mess the kids left on the table and wishes you a "wonderful night" dropping off the check.  When she sees she was left a 5% tip, she wonders how she'll ever get the student loan debt collectors off her back.
This painting would look best in a space that is deep red, yellow, orange, dark green, navy blue, purple,  white, or beige

With over seven billion people on earth, it's hard to imagine that each one is an unique individual.  No two people are genetically the same, not even "identical twins."  Our DNA is always changing and mutating.  People come in infinite shapes and sizes.  An immeasurable diversity that can be easy to forget.

This piece would work in almost any space with its use of black and white in a neutral frame

Where I'm From

Where I'm From, 2014
pen, ink, graphite on paper
11" x 14"

10% OFF with coupon code: JOINtheFUN

Where I'm from reveals who I am.  A small working class town on the shores of western Michigan during industrial decline.  Families packing up and leaving for far off places just for the opportunity to work at a decent wage.  But that struggle has made the community stronger as it fights to revive downtown with new shops, residences, and breweries.  Sometimes it's best to be the underdog.

This drawing would look best in almost any space with it's neutral tones.  The paper is a light pink hue.

Meerkat Assembly Plant

Meerkat Assembly Plant, 2014
pen and ink
4" x 6" in a 5 1/4" x 7 1/4" frame
© copyright Mike Kraus

Science and technology can improve the meerkat.  To challenge what it means to be a meerkat.  Why be only 10 inches tall when you could be six foot tall?  Demand for large meerkats is expected to high as insect and lizard populations are projected to explode due to global climate change.  Of course, this will help Mother Nature stay in balance.

This drawing would look great in any space with its neutral color and frame.
