Our feet are sore after hiking along Enfield Creek to see Lucifer Falls.  It's a rocky gorge full of cliffs, stairs, and waterfalls.  There's an explosion of color that matches the roar of the water.  At the end of the rim trail is the cabin.  A perfect place to get away from the world.

Hiking along the Rio Dão, we come to the Ponte Romana.  An old Roman bridge sturdily connecting the small town of Ferreirós do Dão to the rest of the world.  We climb down to the river to rest our feet in the refreshing water.  The clear water runs over rocks that seem to support the world.  A place to have peace of mind.

What’s black and white and red all over?  A birch forest of course.  Birch trees have always been a meditative source for me.  Growing up, there was one outside my window that I would look at while daydreaming.  And, when I needed to get away from the world I went to a grove of Birch trees to find refuge.  I’ve always found the unique and nearly useless white tree interesting.

This painting would look best somewhere that needs a splash of color and compliment a space that is orange, purple, yellow, green, blue, or wood.
