💜 How Are We Going To Spend Our Summer? 💜

Brightscapes: The Way To Beauty

Our bikes race up and down the gentle hills of Provence. Everything has a distinct texture, the colors are vibrant, and the perfume in the air is intoxicating. Every twisting road reveals new rows of lavender stretching endlessly under the sun. I will never forget the fields of France.

Art is more than something pretty on a wall. It carries feelings, memories, and a little bit of hope. If this piece speaks to you, it may be because it already belongs with you.

🌮 Why Always Chicken Out When You Could Try A Fish Taco? 🌮

Brightscapes: The Way To Beauty

Tucked in my cozy shell, feeling the ocean breeze whisper through my lettuce and the sun warming me like a lazy beach afternoon. I could smell a hint of lime dancing in the air and hear distant waves clapping like they were cheering me on. Some human nearby looked totally fried in the not fun way, all tense and crunchy inside, so I wiggled my little feet and said hey, come chill with me for a second. I told them about my go to move called Taco Drift, where you pause, breathe slow, and imagine yourself floating on a mellow tide with nothing to prove and nowhere to rush. It sounds silly, I know, but I am a bit of a California weirdo and I swear by it.

They gave it a try, shoulders dropping like sand settling after a wave, and I could almost taste the calm spreading, smooth and fresh like a perfect bite. Taco Drift works fast because your brain secretly loves a tiny vacation, even if it only lasts a moment. The human smiled, and that soft happy sound was better than any beach party I have ever crashed. Life can get loud and spicy in a way that burns, but a small easy action can turn that heat into something warm and delicious instead.

So tell me, are you ready to Taco Drift with me and take the easiest little vacation you have all day?

🌵 Being a Prick Doesn’t Mean You Have to Be Cruel… Right? 🌵

Brightscapes: The Way To Beauty

I woke up this morning feeling extra prickly in the nicest way, like tiny hugs all over my skin, and I decided that meant adventure. The sun felt warm and buttery as it soaked into me, and I could almost taste the light, sweet and golden, like a sip of happiness. A human wandered by looking a little droopy, so I waved both my arms and said hello in my brightest voice. I told them about my secret, a cheerful little routine I call Desert Bathing, where you simply pause, smile wide, and imagine sunshine filling you from your toes to your nose. I swear I could hear their sigh soften into something lighter, like a breeze turning friendly.

They tried it right there, eyes closed, shoulders relaxing, and I could feel the air shift around us, calm and giggly at the same time. Desert Bathing is very easy, I explained, and it works fast because your heart already knows how to feel good, it just needs a tiny nudge. The human laughed, and oh my cactus, that sound was the best music I had ever heard, warm and bouncy like pebbles dancing. I may be a simple cactus with a big smile, but I know this for sure, a small sweet action can turn a tangled day into a soft and sunny one, and that is a benefit worth sharing with everyone who wanders close enough to say hello.

Would you like to try a Desert Bathing with me right now?

🌞 Have you ever wished you could hold onto a perfect moment and revisit it anytime? 🌞

Brightscapes: The Way To Beauty

I followed a narrow path down through the village as the sky softened into gold and red, each turn revealing another glimpse of the sea stretching endlessly beyond the cliffs. The air carried the faint scent of salt and citrus, and somewhere nearby I could hear the quiet clink of glasses and distant laughter drifting from a terrace. I slowed without thinking, letting the warmth of the evening settle in, realizing there was nowhere else I needed to be and nothing I needed to rush toward.

I found a small spot to sit and take it all in, the colors, the calm, the feeling that time had loosened its grip for a while. It reminded me how powerful it is to have even a small window into a place like this, something that brings you back to that stillness whenever you need it.

If you could hold onto one moment like this and return to it anytime, wouldn’t you?

🌞 Can you feel when a turning point has already passed? 🌞

Brightscapes: The Way To Beauty

There’s a moment at the end of every day when the sky puts on its final show. The colors explode. Everything looks more alive just before it disappears. And then it happens. The light slips below the edge and we are left wondering how long we have until it returns. That tension between beauty and loss. Between what we were and what we might become if we are not careful. The sun does not wait for us. It simply moves on.

Hold on to the light while we still have it. And prepare for the morning.

🌞 What would it feel like to come home to this view every day? 🌞

Brightscapes: The Way To Beauty

A cool breeze comes off Seneca Lake as we walk the grounds of a winery. It feels good after a long drive with many stops at roadside stands, Amish farms, and a delicious lunch in Geneva, NY. We relax with a glass of wine, taking in the panoramic view of the lake. A sweet scent drifts through the vineyard as we saunter aimlessly. It is a good place to think about what would pair best with our meal later in Watkins Glen.

😎 What place helps the world feel simple again? 😎

Brightscapes: The Way To Beauty

Every summer I make the same quiet promise to myself. When the city noise of Chicago starts to feel too heavy, I point the car toward the lake and end up here again. I climb the sandy steps of Mount Baldhead until the trees open and the whole harbor spreads out below me. The breeze carries the fresh scent of lake water and warm pine, and I can hear the distant hum of boats gliding across the channel. Standing there with the wide sky above and the river winding toward Lake Michigan, everything inside me seems to slow down.

That is why this view never really leaves me. It brings back the feeling of warm sunlight on my shoulders and the peaceful rhythm of summer afternoons along the water. Hanging this scene in your space is like keeping a small window open to Saugatuck whenever you need a breath of calm.

If you could step into this view for a moment today, who would you want standing beside you at the top of the hill?

Sometimes, living in Upstate New York is like living in a postcard. Every trail we hike reveals the beauty of nature. Dense forests give way to open fields. We find a comfortable spot to snack and take in all the sights, sounds, smells, and feel of the lake. "If this isn't nice, what is?"

Where is your favorite place? Who do you go there with? Why is it so special to you? How does it make you feel?

This painting would look best in a space that is yellow, light green, blue, purple, black, white, beige, gray, or wood.

My Story
Hi, I’m Mike the artist of Mike Kraus Art Inc.

I’ve been making art since I could hold a crayon. As a kid, I’d fill every notebook, homework margin, and scrap of paper with doodles. I sold my first artwork in junior high, sketching in class and handing off pieces between periods. That early love for making things never faded. I followed it all the way to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and eventually, I decided to stop treating art as a side hustle and make it my life’s work.

My paintings are full of energy, motion, and saturated color. I’m drawn to bold shapes and organic lines—forms that feel alive. I create with the hope that my work brings something beautiful and uplifting into someone’s day. Whether it’s a spark of joy, a moment of calm, or just a splash of color that makes you pause—I want my art to connect with something real.

Now, I’m lucky enough to paint full-time, with collectors across the U.S. and in dozens of countries around the world. But more than anything, I still feel like that kid with a crayon, excited to create. I’m grateful to share this journey with you—and I hope you find something in my work that makes your world a little brighter.

The last bit of sun melts into the horizon, the water ripples of gold and copper, and I feel the sand still warm beneath my toes even as the breeze starts to cool. The air is thick with the scent of lake water and driftwood, and for a moment everything feels suspended, like the world has slowed down just to let me breathe it in. Behind me, I hear laughter float across the shoreline, a reminder that the night is only just beginning.

Do you have a favorite memory of watching the sun disappear into the water?
