Find Understanding

We've all hurt people.  And that hurts us.  After causing that pain, it is our duty to correct that wrong.  Our ego must not get in the way.  Ignoring and rationalizing only hides our fear that we are weak.  True strength comes from humility, kindness, and admitting our mistakes.

1) Express Regret: Talk directly with those you've wronged by expressly stating what you did.  For example: "I'm sorry that I (wrongful action).  It was not my intention to hurt you."

2) Very Short Explanation: Without excuses, let them know why the incident occurred in 1-2 sentences.  For example: "I did (wrongful action) from thoughtless habit; not to attack you."

3) Take Responsibility: Say "I was wrong," "It's was my mistake," or other appropriate variation.

4) Offer Remorse: Let them know explicitly this will not happen again.  For example: "I will not do (wrongful action) again because I don't want to cause you pain."

5) Fix or Compensate Error: If you broke something; replace it.  If you took something; give it back (in better condition than you found it).  Was it something emotional or unable to be restored?  Find a way to make amends that is equal to or greater than the misdeed.

6) Ask To Be Forgiven: Be straightforward and say "Will you forgive me?"

Benefits:
1) Saying sorry makes it possible to have a good long term relationship with others.
2) You acknowledge bad behavior and can be trusted again
3) The victim gets their dignity returned.
4) It lets other know that you're still a good person who just made a mistake.
5) Reduces stress that impacts heart health.

This painting would look best in a space that is red, orange, yellow, light green, blue, purple, black,  gray, beige. or wood.

It Almost Kinda Feels Like It Might Be Spring

Anyone in the market for a good Elvis lamp?  There was a good one at the public market garage sale this past weekend...

Some good stuff, but didn't really find anything we wanted.  Maybe next time...

Megan and I went to go support a friend participating in the Flower City Challenge Half-Marathon. (http://www.flowercitychallenge.com/)

Here's a kid giving fives to runners as they enter the gates to Mt. Hope Cemetery.

RUN!

"Ugh, I wouldn't wanna run up that."

The gazebo and gatehouse for the cemetery

A cobblestone hill doesn't seem like the ideal road to run a marathon on.  We were very close to seeing dozens of broken ankles.

Drums and bagpipes are an interesting way to pump up runners.  I liked it though.

Scout really likes the runners and was disappointed we didn't let her race.

Had some work to do at the Abbott's in Bushnell's Basin.  Megan liked it because it was a good excuse for ice cream.

Don't see anything you'd like, let me know and I could create something special for you!

I Love the Smell of Chlorine in the Morning

Last weekend, Megan and I were lucky enough to see Rachel in a swim meet at Penfield High School as a part of the Sea Dragons (http://www.seadragons.org)

Mmmm...  Swimming is a difficult sport to capture with still photography...

But, look at Rachel go!

She's a way better swimmer than I am.  I would have been doing the doggy paddle...

And, here's the future Olympian showing off all her prizes.  GREAT JOB RACHEL!

And, here's Scout torturing us.  Specifically, trying to use Megan's hair as a pillow...

A good place to hide from the cold.

And passing out after three hours of losing her mind...

And, other dogs are now mailing Scout treats.  Apparently really good treats that are able to hold her complete attention for the entire night.  Thanks Vern!

Finally, went to Wilson Commencement Park's (http://www.wilsoncommencementpark.com/) gala on Saturday.  Unfortunately, wasn't able to take any pics.  It was a good time with great people.

That's about it for now.  Just waiting for Meg to get back from Chicago and playing with the dog.
