I want the taste of heirloom tomatoes in everything.  They're sweeter and just make meals more delicious.  At the end of summer, there's an Amish farmer that has a stall at the end of the farmer's market.  He doesn't sell much, but I purchase all that he has each week.  Some I use on meals right away.  The rest of the bushel I can and preserve in mason jars for the winter.  And there's gallons of salsa waiting for me in my basement pantry.

Dog Days of Summer

Scout has a new buddy to play with, Brooklyn.  She loves playing with bigger dogs.  I like it because it means one full day of her sleeping.

BELLA!  Add another day of sleeping!

Bella:  Mike!  Scout won't play with me.
Mike: Scout, get outta there.
Scout: But I so tired and Bella can't get me here...

Unfortunately, I can't get her there either.

BEST DUMPSTER DIVE FIND EVER!  Any out there looking for a backhoe?

#PIZZA.  This is some of my favorite chalk art we found at Cobbles Elementary.

Nothing like making dinner over a bonfire on a weekday.

Now that's a beautiful flame.

Mmmm...  Brats!

Embers after a good night at the backyard pit

HAMBURGER!  No?  A quinoa and lentil burger.  Mmmm.

Haven't seen much of the deer lately.  But, yesterday I did see a doe and fawn race through the neighborhood.  It's a pretty fresh fawn since it didn't look much bigger than Scout.

The Company Picnic

Scout, Chief Czar of the Company, overseeing the construction of the grill for our annual employee picnic,

Scout posing with the grill our generous investors provided the organization to improve morale.

So many wonderful features!

The Chief Czar and Corporate Emperor (who's title is more important is yet to be determined) review the action items for the main event.

Safety inspection to see if we meet minimum OSHA requirement.

Meeting between the titans to discuss the afternoon's menu.

Final review of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) before the celebration.

Beautiful piece of equipment, isn't it?

 ¡Precaución Caliente!

Firing up!

Who doesn't love grilled gourmet pizza?

S'mores for dessert.

Great end to the perfect day.

Thanks to all our wonderful employees.  It is because our all your hard work that we've been able to maintain our lifestyle.

Greetings From the Polar Vortex!

Nothing like -2 degree weather with -25 degree wind chill.  POLAR VORTEX!  It's the first time I've ever had to scrap the ice off the inside of my car windows too.

 Before...

After.  This was from the previous snowstorm.  Nothing like shoveling a ton of snow and waking up to shovel another ton of snow.

The backyard is a frozen wasteland.

Plans for New Year's Eve fell through.  So, ordered some pizza from Headliner's (http://headlinerspizza.com/).

If I wasn't sold on Headliner's before, I certainly am now.  SLICE THE SIZE OF A NEW BORN!  Who ever does their marketing is a genius.

Mmmm...  Pre-mixed vodka a Gatorade on sale at the liquor store.  How convenient.

New coffee mug around the ol' house.  This is what I look like before my caffeine.

After I've added some coffee.  Nothing like a heat activated cup o' joe.

And now for the misadventures of Scout.  This week's episode: Discovering the Lost Underworld of the Couch.

It won't be long before she won't fit under there anymore.  I'm just waiting for her to go after her ball and start crying because she's stuck.

This is what happens when you can't go outside...

That's all.  Hope everyone back in Michigan and Chicago are keeping safe in warm.  All's well over here.

I Got Apples!

It doesn't get more Upstate New York than this: apple picking.  Headed over to the Apple Farm (https://www.thevictorapplefarm.com/) in Victor for a bag of apples, apple donuts, and other products in what is becoming a Columbus Day tradition.

 How 'bout dem apples?

The rain earlier in the day made all the apples look idyllic.  It also made my sneakers into a portable swamp.  You win some; you lose some...

Ground apples...

An old barn on the property.

Megan finding the perfect Golden Delicious apples

"I can make baked apples, apple pie, apple cake, apple sauce, apple butter, apple muffins, apple juice, apple glazed chicken, apple pork chops, candy apples, apple crisp, apple strudel, apple cobbler, apple fritters..."

The foliage is getting to be near peak.  Just another week or so.

More apples!

Also a Columbus Day tradition: Bernardo's (http://www.bernardospizza.com/) for a post-apple picking lunch.

May I suggest the Chicken Pesto Pizza Special?  By far the best slices of pizza ever.  I probably could of had a whole pie to myself.

MOMBUS2

That's all I got for this week.  See you on the flippy-flip (miss no-look basketball shot over my shoulder).
