Mike Kraus was born on the industrial shoreline of Muskegon, Michigan. After earning his Fine Arts Degree from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, he attended Grand Valley State University for his graduate degree. From there, he gained varied experiences from the Chicago Architecture Foundation, Art Institute of Chicago, Hauenstein Center For Presidential Studies, Lollypop Farm Humane Society, and the Children's Memorial Foundation. And every place he worked, he had his sketchbook with him and found ways to be actively creative. In 2014, Kraus became a full-time artist by establishing Mike Kraus Art. Since then, he has sold hundreds of paintings that are displayed in nearly every state and dozens of countries. Currently, Kraus lives in Rochester, New York with his beautiful wife and goofy dog.

7 Things To Make Up For Last Weekend...

We met another one of our fine neighbors.  This is Kiki the Yorkie.  She was barking in the middle of the road.  Megan crouched down and said "Here puppy" and she ran over and lept into her lap.  Fierce guard dog.  She's back home with her loving family.

 Kiki likes laps

Kiki does like the grass

Thanks to Jen, we went to a Western New York Flash (http://www.wnyflash.com/) game.  This is outside at Sahlen Stadium

Pretty good seats!

CORNER KICK!

Abby Wambach penalty kick.  Did not go, but we did see her head in another goal earlier in the game.

Baby deer update:  They are all good.  Had a little bit of a scare last Saturday finding a fawn hit by a car on Five Mile Line Road.

Megan at Irondequoit Creek in Linear Park

Me at the same place

That is a really red sweatshirt...

Sgoh-Sa-Is-Thah.  Saw this sign on the other side of Irondequoit Creek when we were wandering around finding new paths.

Moving!  Not us again (thank god).  Dave and Alison got a new place and we helped them move.

Megan in "Mom's Attic" resting once everything was unloaded.

Stella seems to like the new house

Stella's also tired from a long day of moving...

Yotini's finally opened up near us (just northwest of the intersection of Penfield (441) and Five Mile Line Road at Liberty Street).  Haven't tried it yet.  Lots of yogurt shops going in lately.

And, you know what this means.  The Battle Against Beige Tyranny continues at the Bell/Kraus household.  The first coat is up and we'll finish it up this weekend.

Movers and Shakers

Photobucket
This is the look of a sad little girl who's husband won't let her move into her new house earlier than planned.

Photobucket
Almost all of our junk fits into the living room.  And moving is the best way to fight post-Thanksgiving turkey coma

Photobucket
Everything has a place and every place has a thing (except the 2nd floor, which is vacant)

So, for those of you that really want to know, our new address is:

41 Woodside Dr
Rochester, NY 14526

Photobucket

We'll be moving soon at Lollypop Farm too!  This is the exterior of the new clinic with siding and all.

Photobucket
There will be lots of happy cats looking out these windows soon

Photobucket

Nice masonry!

Photobucket
For all you HVAC and other system fans out there...

Photobucket
Interior of the new training center.  Quite a vast expanse!

Photobucket
The walls about to go in the new office space.  In front is open office space for desks and other equipment.  Offices on the left side.  Kitchenette straight ahead.  Bathrooms slightly to the right.  And the far right and back will be meeting rooms.  A lot of progress and it won't be long before it's all finished!

That's about it for now.  As things stand now, the next episode will be "how to fix insulation problems in your home."  Good thing it should be a nice, warm weekend...

A huge THANK YOU to a lot of people:
Terry Clar for letting us into every home in Monroe County and being patient with two idiot first-time home buyers.  To Bob Schreiber for teaching us about houses, all the running around, and generous support in trying to find a place to call "home."  To Megan's dad for storing our crap at his house for longer that we'd like to admit and so, so, so much, much more.  To Dave and Alison for working the morning shift of the move and moving the armoire into its final resting place (+ coffee).  Rich for letting these homeless bums squat at his place, move us in-and-out-out-and-in, and countless other ways big and small.  Erin brought the sugar high of Girl Scout Cookies and pop to finish out the move.  Marianne, who is pimping out our apartment (more on that later).  Mike Renahan for a couple great home inspections.  To Rachel for moving in a dining room table and breaking in Scrabble at our new house.  I'm sure I'm forgetting lots of people and apologize if I did.  THANK YOU!  THANK YOU!  THANK YOU!  None of this would have been possible without you!!!

October 2012 #27

Photobucket
Issue #27

Goodbye Chicago.  You’ve always had a place for me on your broad boulevards.  But, I’m married now and it’s time for me to move on.  To settle near family and have kids of my own.  Find a place to call “home” and live the clichés of Thanksgiving dinners and grilling in the backyard.  I love my simple life of taking the “el” to work and checking out the neighborhoods on the weekend; but I must go.

I remember the day I decided to move here.  After that misleading job interview, I wondered all around the Loop knowing there was nothing I could do back in Michigan.  Staring at the spitting faces of Crown Fountain.  Grabbing a hot dog and fries at Max’s Take Out.  I gave myself one year to sink or swim and moved into my Spartan Ravenswood apartment a few days later.

Now, the moving truck has all our junk in it and we’re starting a new life in Rochester, New York.  Will it be better than Chicago?  Apples and oranges.  But, I will miss the activity of a world-class city.  The adventure, amusement, and/or oddities I could find around every street corner.  The food.  All of my friends going to dive bars, the bartering of Maxwell Street Market, all kinds of concerts at a wide variety of venues, apartment parties for any reason, and just sitting on the porch people watching.  It’s been good.

Keep On Keepin' On.

Photobucket
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Photobucket
And that means Littlest Pet Shop!  I am the Husky in the middle.

Photobucket
Helped with some moving last weekend.  Putting together Ikea furniture is always an adventure.

Photobucket
Somehow it all came together with only one missing part...

Photobucket
How does Princess like the move?  The look says it all...

Photobucket
Lot of work happening around Lollypop Farm.

Photobucket
Goodbye lawn!

That's all.  Very, very busy and lots of crazy little details all over the place...

Did I Tell You We Moved... Again...

More new business before we start:

1) Megan and I moved again.  We shouldn't move again at least for another year.  Our new address is:

3 Mountain Lane, Unit 2C
Penfield, NY 14625

A HUGE THANKS goes out to Rich for letting us crash at his place for the past month.  Also, to Dick Sr. for letting us use his garage as a storage unit, lending us a truck, helping move all of our junk in, and then giving us a ton of new furniture.  THANKS!!!

Onward to the photo bonanza!

Photobucket
For Halloween, Rachel went as Strawberry Shortcake

Photobucket
Megan and I handed out candy at Rich's place while he brought her trick or treating.  It didn't last long since she got scared when she saw a plastic skeleton.

Photobucket
I am no longer phased when I see all of our junk in the back of a truck anymore

Photobucket
BEHOLD!  In all her glory!  Our new apartment.  It's slightly nicer looking than this since Megan took Monday off

Photobucket
Couch and TV are set, what else do you need?

Photobucket
This pic is weird to me since I've lived in Chicago for so long.  Why?  There are woods outside that window.

Photobucket
Welcome to Barbie's Dream Bathroom

Photobucket
It's like I'm living in Legally Blonde...

Corbett's Glen Nature Park in Brighton, which is just down the road from our place.
