💚 Join Me Today for Color and Energy! 💚

Brightscapes: The Way To Beauty

💚 I’m inviting you! 💚

Today Friday, May 1st, I'm welcoming you into two experiences built around the same idea: art that moves you. One is in-person, where you can see it, feel it, and connect face-to-face. The other is online, where creativity opens up to everyone, everywhere.

There is something we all run into. Life gets busy, attention gets pulled in a hundred directions, and before you know it, creativity becomes something you scroll past instead of something you feel. Art turns into background noise instead of a real moment. And when that happens, we lose that spark that reminds us why we love it in the first place.

So here’s the invitation. Come experience it up close.

Rochester Fine Art Market
TODAY May 1st, 2026
6pm-9pm

Join us for First Friday at Rochester Fine Art Market featuring my latest work. These paintings are all about bold color, movement, and organic forms that shift depending on how you stand, how you feel, and what you bring into the room. This is not just about seeing art on a wall. It is about stepping into it, meeting the energy physically, and sharing a space with people who feel that same pull toward creativity.

I have been creating art since I was a kid sketching in notebooks, through my time at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, to now painting full time for collectors around the world. At the center of all of it is one simple idea: art should make you feel something real. Joy, calm, curiosity, or even just a pause in the middle of a busy day.

That is what this night is about. You get to experience the work as it is meant to be seen, connect directly with me, meet other art lovers, and be part of a space where creativity is alive and shared. Whether you have been collecting for years or just want to explore something new, you will find something that speaks to you.

If you are anywhere near Rochester, make the time to come by. Bring a friend, walk through the gallery, start a conversation, and give yourself that reset that only art can offer.

I will be there and I would love to see you.

Your Friend,
Mike Kraus

and celebrate creativity with artists and supporters from everywhere. Bring your art, your music, your voice, or just your presence. What will you bring to life?

Sometimes, living in Upstate New York is like living in a postcard. Every trail we hike reveals the beauty of nature. Dense forests give way to open fields. We find a comfortable spot to snack and take in all the sights, sounds, smells, and feel of the lake. "If this isn't nice, what is?"

Where is your favorite place? Who do you go there with? Why is it so special to you? How does it make you feel?

This painting would look best in a space that is yellow, light green, blue, purple, black, white, beige, gray, or wood.

My Story
Hi, I’m Mike the artist of Mike Kraus Art Inc.

I’ve been making art since I could hold a crayon. As a kid, I’d fill every notebook, homework margin, and scrap of paper with doodles. I sold my first artwork in junior high, sketching in class and handing off pieces between periods. That early love for making things never faded. I followed it all the way to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and eventually, I decided to stop treating art as a side hustle and make it my life’s work.

My paintings are full of energy, motion, and saturated color. I’m drawn to bold shapes and organic lines—forms that feel alive. I create with the hope that my work brings something beautiful and uplifting into someone’s day. Whether it’s a spark of joy, a moment of calm, or just a splash of color that makes you pause—I want my art to connect with something real.

Now, I’m lucky enough to paint full-time, with collectors across the U.S. and in dozens of countries around the world. But more than anything, I still feel like that kid with a crayon, excited to create. I’m grateful to share this journey with you—and I hope you find something in my work that makes your world a little brighter.

Sometimes, living in Upstate New York feels like stepping into a dream you didn’t know you missed; especially on days like this, hiking Keuka Lake. The air smells like maple and warm earth, the water sparkles like scattered glass, and every bend in the trail offers a little more peace. We found a sunny patch just off the path, sat down with snacks and silence, and let the lake do all the talking. If this isn’t nice, what is?

Where’s your go-to escape? The place that always brings you back to yourself?

Lake Erie has an over-sized influence.  It's more than just location, industry, tourism, and fishing, but in an intellectual and spiritual way.  It's the look and feel of the water that communicates indescribable messages to those who listen.  Yet, ugliness begets ugliness.  For the sake of convenience and profit, we've destroyed wetlands for subdivisions, dumped industrial and animal waste into rivers, and poured fertilizers onto grass to make it a little greener.  This predictably has lead to dead zones of toxic Blue-green algae that now engulf over 500 square miles of Lake Erie during the summer.  Conservation and restoration of Lake Erie is imperative.  Progress requires the protection of our scenic, health, historic, and recreational values.  What is good for nature is good for us.

Moonlight breaks through the canopy of the forest as I hike in the darkness.  There's the sound of an owl in the distance warning other of my presence.  The leaves wrestle in the breeze spreading the scent of spicy apricots.  The nocturnal forest is exactly what you expect; and completely unpredictable.  In the dark shadows of the evening I can see everything and nothing at all.

This painting would look best in a small-to-medium space that is red, orange, yellow, green, dark blue, purple, black, white, beige, grey, or wood.

The warm breeze rushes through the car as we drive down country roads with our windows down.  Every bend reveals new sights.  Every hill a new perspective on the panorama.  It's a yearly ritual for us to visit sunflower fields as they bloom.  A day full of hiking and picnics among the waves of petals.  It's the little things in life that make us grateful.

Let's start being kinder to others and ourselves with the Kindness Challenge at: https://www.kindspring.org/challenge/?op=nletter&cid=2153&id=59060
